Elmhurst, IL – Elmhurst District 205 schools are once again proud to honor the dedicated service of our nation’s veterans this Veterans Day. This annual tradition provides students with meaningful opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-life experiences shared by veterans and their families. Throughout the week, schools across the district will host a variety of events including breakfasts, ceremonies, and 5K runs to express gratitude to those who have bravely served our country.

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, the York High School Student Council will host its annual Veterans Day Breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. On Tuesday, November 11, at 8:00 a.m., York will hold its annual all-school Veterans Day Assembly in the Campbell Gym to honor local veterans. Both events are free and open to all community veterans and their families.

York is eager to recognize as many veterans as possible. Those interested in attending may RSVP to Student Council Advisor Matt Moran at MMoran@elmhurst205.org or 630-617-2400 ext. 7285. The assembly will feature remarks from United States veterans, York students, and school administrators.

At Bryan Middle School, the community will gather for the Seventh Annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Honor Ceremony. Breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m., followed by an all-school assembly at 8:30 a.m.

Students at Sandburg Middle School, Field Elementary School, Hawthorne Elementary, and Edison Elementary will participate in a run held in partnership with Honor Flight Chicago. These events, taking place on Tuesday, November 11, aim to honor, thank, and inspire senior war veterans for their service and sacrifice. At Edison Elementary School, veterans will be enjoying lunch with students while cheering them on as they run laps during recess to raise awareness and support for Honor Flight Chicago.

Several other schools across the district are also contributing by creating heartfelt cards and letters for local veterans. Students have been taking time in class to write personal notes, draw pictures, and share messages of gratitude and respect. These thoughtful gestures will be delivered to veterans, adding a meaningful touch to our collective efforts to honor and thank those who have served.

Elmhurst School District 205 extends its deepest gratitude to all the men and women who have served to protect our country.
