Curriculum & Instruction

In Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205, the basic purpose of the curriculum is to provide a comprehensive learning experience that actively engages and challenges each student to be a continuing learner who makes responsible choices and interacts with society in a constructive manner (6:10 Educational Philosophy and Objectives). The District utilizes a comprehensive curriculum that is aligned with the following (6:40 Curriculum Development):

  1. The District's educational philosophy and goals,

  2. Student needs as identified by research, demographics, and student achievement and other data,

  3. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for students to become life-long learners,

  4. The minimum requirements of State and federal law and regulations for curriculum and graduation requirements, including but not limited to the Illinois Instructional Mandates (2023-24),

  5. The curriculum District-wide and articulated across all grade levels, The Illinois State Learning Standards and District learning standards, and

  6. Any required State or federal student testing.
