District 205 offers robust summer programming options for ALL students! With courses that will allow your student to prepare for the next year, catch up from last year, or explore some new areas, you are sure to find something for your student.

For students in Early Childhood (EC) programs, classes are from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

For students in K-8 academic programs, classes are from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Transportation: Bus Transportation is available for students who are recommended for ESY or Summer Acceleration ONLY.

Vacation Policy: The D205 Summer Program welcomes students who will be on vacation for some classes/rehearsals and/or students who participate in other summer activities. Students who can only attend a portion of their chosen summer program(s) are still encouraged to register!
(*note: York Academic Summer School programs have a different policy because they are offered for credit).

Registration for K-8 exploratory, athletics, and fine arts will open the week of February 26, 2024. Courses will close by Friday, May 17, 2024 or when the course cap has been reached. (Note: Registration may be extended for certain programs or courses)

Open Enrollment Options
Unless otherwise listed, all 1st-8th grade open enrollment options will meet during all four weeks of June. See the drop down menus above for additional details.
In accordance with Board policy and past practice, District 205 does accept nonpublic school students and home-schooled students in open-enrollment courses on a space-available basis. Please reach out to the Director of Arts, Physical Education, and Health and/or the Director of Business Services for registration support.
Summer Exploratory: Creative Design and Build - 1st-4th Grade
- Eligibility: Open to all students entering grades 1-4 in 2024-2025
- Cost: $170
- Description: Students enrolled in this program will explore project-based learning concepts and skills with classmates as they design, create, and build their own projects. Examples of learning concepts, tools and curricula that may be included are: coding with Dash robots, Lego, and Sphero while introducing other Everyone Can Create resources and concepts on iPad devices such as drawing and video.

Summer Exploratory: Project Lead the Way Survey - 5th Grade
- Eligibility: Open to all students entering grade 5 in 2024-2025
- Cost: $170
- Description: Students enrolled in this course will experience a small part of multiple engineering-focused electives offered during the regular school year. Students will design, create, and test prototype solutions to real-world problems using a variety of hands-on and computational tools. This course is appropriate for students who want to learn more about the Project Lead the Way course offerings in order to make more informed elective decisions for 7th and 8th grade. It’s also appropriate for students who don’t have room in their regular school schedule to take Project Lead the Way electives.

Industrial Tech Summer Manufacturing Camp - 6th-7th Grade
- Eligibility: This summer camp is designed for students entering grades 6-7 in 2024-2025 to support them in discovering their interest in manufacturing, to encourage the pursuit of a manufacturing career, and to build the foundational training necessary to excel.
- Cost: $200
- Duration: This one-week program runs Monday-Thursday, students can enroll in one of the two sections: either June 3-6 or June 10-13
- Description: Experience modern manufacturing by creating and building products to take and use at home. Campers will experience a safe, hands-on learning environment creating products using a variety of manufacturing applications and tools. Areas of exploration will include Graphic Design, Automotive, Machining, Woodworking, Plastics and 3D Design and Modeling. Campers will learn to operate computer software and machinery under close supervision, and learn about careers in engineering and manufacturing. All campers will create a personalized summer camp T-shirt!

LEGO SPIKE PRIME
- Eligibility: Open to all students entering grades 6-8 in 2024-2025
- Duration: This one-week program runs Monday-Thursday, students can enroll in one of the two sections: either June 3-6 or June 10-13
- Cost: $100
- Description: This course teaches physical computing concepts through the wonderful world of LEGO. Students will build and program their own robots using LEGO SPIKE. Students will learn to problem solve through daily challenges using LEGO robots. Students of all robot skill levels are encouraged to attend. Students with experience in block programming will learn the basics of Python.

Project Lead the Way: Medical Detectives
- Eligibility: Open to all students entering grades 6-8 in 2024-2025
- Cost: $300 (includes consumable materials fee)
- Description: In the Medical Detectives course, students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, dissect a sheep brain, investigate disease outbreaks, and explore how a breakdown within the human body can lead to dysfunction.

Summer Acceleration - Early Childhood
- Eligibility: Open to students entering preschool or kindergarten in 2023-2024 by invitation only
- Cost: None
- Description: The Summer Acceleration program at Madison is for students that will be going to Preschool or Kindergarten next school year to provide them with additional pre-literacy and numeracy practice and social-emotional skill development.
Summer Acceleration - 1st-9th Grade
- Eligibility: Open to all students entering grades 1-9 in 2024-2025 by invitation only
- Cost: None
- Description: The purpose of this program is to provide targeted instruction in Mathematics and English Language Arts concepts ensuring every student has the time and support necessary to be prepared for the next school year. Students are recommended for this program based on a combination of IAR and MAP scores, standards based grades, and other school level progress monitoring data. Math instruction focuses on grade-level content, but with a new lens and using different materials and resources. Teachers use engaging low-floor, high-ceiling tasks to give students opportunities to deepen their understanding of and facility with grade-level mathematics. English Language Arts instruction focuses on giving students continued opportunities to acquire and master grade-level skills in the areas of language comprehension and word recognition. Teachers build students’ knowledge on a high interest topic with daily opportunities to read, write about, and discuss rich, engaging texts. Rising first and second graders will also engage in word study activities that focus on securing key foundational skills in the areas of phonemic awareness and phonics in order to further develop as fluent readers. This course is appropriate and intended for students who need additional time and support to master grade-level standards.
Accelerated PreAlgebra Bridge - 7th Grade
- Eligibility: This program is for pre-identified students transitioning into accelerated math.
- Cost: None
- Description: Students who are transitioning from 6th Grade Math 1 this year to 7th Grade Accelerated PreAlgebra next year will utilize Khan Academy and a virtual Elmhurst Math Teacher to prepare for the accelerated pace of next year's course. This course consists of a weekly Zoom session with a teacher alongside daily Khan Academy activities to be completed independently at home. The course will run during the same window as MS summer school (June 5th-June 30th). Zoom meeting dates and times will be announced later in the Spring.
Extended School Year (ESY)
- Eligibility: Open to Students with Disabilities by IEP Team Decision Only
- Cost: None
- Description: The Extended School Year (ESY) program is designed for students with disabilities who require specialized academic and related services to meet their individualized goals, beyond the normal school year. Eligibility for ESY is determined by each student's IEP team, including parents, and is provided at no cost to the parents of the child. ESY offers small class sizes and the support of a full special education team. Students in the program may receive social work, speech language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, the support of educational assistants, and other services, in accordance with their IEPs. Teams will consider the severity of the student’s needs, evidence of past loss of skills during extended breaks from school, and patterns of recoupment of skills in each area of need when returning from breaks in determining eligibility for ESY. The purpose of the program is to help students maintain current skill levels.
Dual Language Oracy
- Eligibility: Open to all students K-5 who are currently enrolled in the Dual Language Program at Conrad Fischer Elementary School.
- Schedule: TBD, ONLINE
- Cost: None
- Description: The Dual Language Oracy summer school program will take place in the afternoons on zoom for 30 minute sessions. These sessions will provide additional oracy practice in Spanish so students can continue to practice and develop their language skills.
Dual Language - Rising 6th Grade
- Eligibility: Open to students in the Dual Language Program entering 6th grade at Churchville in 2024-2025.
- Cost: None

Description: During this new summer offering, rising 6th grade students in the dual language program will have the opportunity to advance their Spanish language and literacy skills through engaging and authentic literacy opportunities and interactive collaborative activities. Students will participate in book clubs with authentic texts and receive targeted small group literacy instruction that meets students at their independent level. In addition to literacy, there will be opportunities for speaking and listening practice and vocabulary building through conversations.
This program will follow the same schedule as the Summer Acceleration program and transportation for this program will be provided.
**If your student was invited to Summer Acceleration, participation in that program should be prioritized. Note that rising 6th grade dual language students will have a dedicated section of Acceleration similar to the regular school year.
Jumpstart
- Eligibility: This program is for pre-identified students in primary grades (K-2)
- Schedule: TBD in August, at Conrad Fischer Elementary
- Cost: None
- Description: Students enrolled in this program will explore math and English Language Arts with classmates, allowing every student time to master standards from the previous year, preview content from the next year, and work through hands-on, engaging activities focused on ensuring that all students feel confident headed into the next school year.

The York Summer School Program offers a variety of opportunities for students to continue their formal learning during the summer months. More specifically, our summer school offers students an opportunity to take courses that achieve the following goals:

- Remediation
York summer school programs are an additional opportunity and not an essential experience. As you look through the information below, we hope that you see opportunities for your students to explore and to reinvigorate their learning while making sure that they are able to recharge over the summer for the next academic school year.
