Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Receives National Recognition for Music Education Support

Elmhurst, IL – Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 (District 205) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education for the second time in four years. Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. District 205 is one of only 32 districts that were chosen from Illinois out of 975 across the nation.

York Community High School Team Raises Over $25,000 to Support the Athletes of Special Olympics Illinois

Elmhurst, IL York Community High School students and staff have raised over $25,000 in support of the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. Joining 17 other school teams in the fundraiser, York is on track to raise the highest amount of any of the participating teams and you can still help them with their goal!

Bryan Middle School Student Wins Regional Spelling Bee

Elmhurst, IL – Ossuary, noun, os·​su·​ary; ˈä-shə-ˌwer-ē - This is the word that Sean Gibbons, eighth grader from Bryan Middle School in Elmhurst School District 205, confidently spelled to become the official winner of the DuPage County Regional Spelling Bee this week. Sean will now move on to represent DuPage County, competing against more than 200 spellers from across the country and around the world.

York High School Interact Club Members are Sewing their Hearts out for Breast Cancer Awareness

Elmhurst, IL – The York High School Interact Club, a division of Rotary, is doing their part to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2022, club members set out on a mission to launch a service project to provide support for breast cancer patients. The club created a plan and set forth to complete an interactive project to make hand-sewn pillows for breast cancer survivors to use after undergoing surgery. Continuing the project this year, students completed their pillows this month and are excited to be able to continue providing support to help those who are battling breast cancer.

Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Shares Results of ISBE Report Cards

Elmhurst, IL – The data released today in the 2023 Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
for District 205 shows a strong return on investments with multiple areas increasing
beyond predictions after a year focused on data, research and implementation of new
curricula and professional development. The annual Report Card data provides a detailed
look at each school’s progress on multiple areas including academics, student success,
school culture and climate, and financial investments. Elmhurst District 205 students
demonstrated significant academic achievements in many areas, compared to prior years and again this year all schools in District 205 have received the top two designations of
Exemplary or Commendable.

Elmhurst School District 205 Receives $249,000 Grant to Support Mental Health Services for  Students

Elmhurst, IL – For students and families in Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205,
connecting students and their families with community mental health services will become easier in the coming weeks, thanks to the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Elmhurst CARES Program. CARES, an acronym for Community Advocacy, Resilience, Engagement and Supports, will allow District staff to easily provide referrals to mental health providers. Funding from the grant will be used to pay for the referral service, called Referral GPS, and to provide mental health services at no cost to students from low-income backgrounds.

York Community High School To Host Seventh Annual Options Fair For Students With Disabilities

Elmhurst, IL – Students with disabilities have a variety of high quality options available to them following high school. Since transition planning is crucial, 24 area high schools in DuPage and Cook County have again come together to provide the Options Fair which will be hosted by York Community High School on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. This year’s fair will feature over 70 vendors representing colleges and universities, certificate programs, university experience programs, building trades, and agencies providing services to youth and adults with disabilities.

York High School Celebrates Thirty-Seven Students Awarded with National Academic Honors

Elmhurst, IL – Thirty-seven York High School students have been recognized nationally for their academic honors. Three of those York High students, Avinash Shah, Nora Sherman, and Syed Bilal Mir, have received the prestigious honor of being named National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists. Twenty-two were also honored as Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
