Computer Concepts Proficiency Exam FAQ's

 

Do students have to take the exam?

No. The proficiency exam is completely optional.

What applications will be tested?

The exam is approximately 40% Microsoft Word, 40% Excel and 20% Publisher. Students must earn a 75% or better to pass the proficiency exam.

How will students know if they have passed?

Results will be sent to each middle school for distribution once the exams have been graded.

Is there a way to study for the test?

Students may wish to review the study guide available online.

Will students who pass the exam earn credit towards graduation?

No. Students who pass the exam are exempted from the requirement to take the course and may choose another elective for credit.

I’m interested. Now what?

Registration forms have been distributed to each middle school and additional copies are available here. Please complete and return the registration form to your middle school by Friday, May 16th, 2008.

Can current York students take the exam?

Yes. Any York student who has not already received credit for the Computer Concepts course may attempt the proficiency exam.

Timeline:

Test registration deadline: Friday, May 16th

Examination: Tuesday, May 20th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
                   or
                   Wednesday, May 21st from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Results posted: Late May, 2008
