Friend of the Foundation Award

2017 Friend of the Foundation Award Reciepient

The Foundation recognized Laura Maniola for her time, dedication and commitment to the Foundation, our educational community and the community at large. Laura served on the Foundation board for six years with duties ranging from Board Secretary, to Treasurer. Laura went above and beyond her duties as a Director, and supported the Foundation in multiple administrative capacities, as well as serving as an enthusiastic ambassador for the Foundation in the community.  Laura co-chaired the 2015 Silver Ball, a tremendously successful fundraiser  celebrating the Foundations 25th anniversary. Laura has also served as PTA President at Lincoln Elementary and on the PTA Council Board which acts as the liaison between the district and each individual PTA board.

Laura and her family are strong believers in public service.  Locally, Laura is a member of 100 +Women and serves as a Eucharistic Minister at her Church.  Laura and her daughter Grace co-founded Cartwheels for Kids, an event that has raised close to $10,000 over three years to support feeding programs that fight childhood hunger. In addition to their generous support of the Foundation, Laura and her husband Joe support Habitat for Humanity and Northern Illinois University, both the school of accountancy and the NIU Foundation.

Our fundraising goals for 2017 will benefit Future Ready Learning initiatives in various district capacities. Laura is a distinct part of how and why the Foundation has seen such success in supplementing the future forward thinking of the D205 Foundation.

2016 Friend of the Foundation

Foundation honors Holly Kost with the 2016 Friend of the Foundation Award

The District 205 Foundation proudly honored Holly Kost with the “Friend of the Foundation” award at  2016 Gala.

Holly’s roots are planted in Elmhurst. She grew up here, raised her family here and absorbed all things volunteer here.  Her involvement began with tenure at Jackson Elementary School where her three children attended over the course of 10 years. Committee chair led to PTA President. She simultaneously served and worked with REACH PTA in various roles including President. A role she went on to hold for eight years.

A theme of appreciated leadership decorates her volunteer resume. No paychecks were exchanged for her hours further spent as founding member of York High School Academic Boosters and the York Distinguished Alumni Program, or her active roles in Music Boosters, Drama Boosters, and the York Advisory Team.Holly and her husband, Kelly, are loyal and generous supporters of the Foundation. Holly was a Thiems Grant recipient for the first Jr. Great Books Program, a literacy enrichment that has been absorbed into the fabric of most of our elementary schools.

This is only a meek excerpt of Holly’s decades of dedication to our schools and other community organizations. Her impact of greatness is immeasurable but devotion and the charity of time are consistent ripples felt through the tide pool of education.

Thank you to Holly for sharing your talents with our community!
